Hot water installation is much more involved than merely joining a few pipes. In Queensland, rules for fitting any make or model of hot water system are more stringent than in many other states and territories. Every replacement must comply with current Australian standards, which may differ from those in place when your old unit was installed. Along with the cost of additional valves (typically not supplied with new systems), Caloundra Hot Water must also pay the QBCC when lodging Form 4 — a compulsory council fee for every home that has a hot water system replaced.
Every hot water installation carried out by Caloundra Hot Water includes:
– Tempering valve
– Pressure reduction valve
– Cold water expansion valve
– NRI valve
– Discharge drains to an approved outlet
– Full insulation on hot water and drain pipes
– QBCC Form 4 fees submitted and paid
The era of a local plumber casually swapping a hot water unit on the way home is over. Now, every replacement has to be performed by a licensed plumber who also holds an electrical licence to safely disconnect and reconnect power. If the system is being moved, an electrical isolator must be fitted adjacent to it — and since 2019 this is also compulsory for all heat pump hot water installations.
Regrettably, some unqualified operators still cut corners by avoiding compliance, skipping paperwork and not paying mandatory fees. At Caloundra Hot Water, our Caloundra plumbers carry out every installation to regulation, so you can be confident the job — installation, repairs or servicing of gas and electric hot water systems — is completed correctly.
